Horary Astrology #7

A client asked me whether a friend of hers, whom I will call Anna, would be able to find work abroad. There was real concern, because Anna’s situation was difficult and the idea of leaving the country appeared as a possible solution. I cast the horary chart for the exact moment of the question was received and began by identifying the significators.

Radical Chart – Regiomontanus

Since the question was about a friend, I used derived houses. Anna is shown by the 11th house of the chart. The cusp of the 11th is in Aries, so Anna is signified by Mars. Ana’s job is the 10th house from the 11th, which brings us to the radical 8th house. Going abroad, long journeys or life in another country is the 9th from the 11th, which corresponds to the radical 7th house.

Mars, the significator of Anna, was combust, very close to a debilitated Sun in Aquarius, and placed in Ana’s own 10th house, that is, exactly on the matter of work itself. This is a clear image of someone consumed by the problem, with little room to act. Moreover, Mars was separating from the Sun, which in horary usually shows that something has already happened, has already burned out, or that an opportunity has already passed. In this specific case, this matched a real fact: Anna had just been rejected for a job in her own country, which reinforces even more the meaning of this separating combustion.

The job and going abroad were signified by Saturn, because the derived 10th and the derived 9th fall in signs ruled by Saturn. This Saturn was in Pisces, without essential dignity, and placed in Anna’s 12th house. It is important to note that Saturn is here in its house of joy, which does not make it benefic, but rather strengthens its own malefic nature even more. We have a Saturn weak by sign and placed in the house that most naturally signifies blockage, loss and confinement, tools that Saturn loves to use as punishers. The 12th house is the house of situations where someone feels trapped or powerless, or attacked by hidden enemies. This Saturn describes a matter that is heavy, blocked, confused and very difficult to solve.

Saturn also makes a dexter square to the Moon, which is in Anna’s 2nd house, in Gemini. This is a very clear testimony of financial pressure. The Moon in the 2nd shows concern with money and resources, and the square to Saturn shows that this need runs directly into limits, delays and denials. The fact that the Moon is in Gemini, an Air sign, shows that these financial matters also weigh on the mental and rational, creating worry and constant preoccupation.

The Moon, which always shows how the situation develops, confirms that the whole matter is driven by material necessity and concern for financial security, and that this movement goes towards a confrontation with the structural blockage shown by Saturn.

When I looked at the chain of dispositors, the picture became even clearer. Saturn is in Pisces, so it depends on Jupiter. Jupiter is retrograde, although exalted, and placed in Anna’s 3rd house, the house of contacts, messages, applications, papers, short travels, and bureaucracy. This describes very well someone who sends CVs, exchanges emails, goes to meetings, talks to people and deals with documents, but goes in circles, goes back, repeats processes and does not move forward. Jupiter is disposed by the Moon, which, again, is Anna’s 2nd house. In the end, the whole matter is ruled by questions of material survival and financial pressure.

In sum, there is no applying aspect between Mars, which represents Anna, and Saturn, which represents the job and going abroad. Without a connection between the main significators, which are malefic to begin with and poorly placed, everything says a clear no.

At this moment, Anna cannot obtain work abroad. The chart shows exhaustion, blockage, attempts at paperwork and bureaucracy, and a situation under strong financial pressure, but without any real opening.
