A querent contacted me to find out more about the nature of a mystical experience which he says he is still unable to put into words, involving a very intense vision exactly one year ago.
Upon opening the chart, we see Virgo rising, which immediately indicates the querent’s difficulty in understanding, rationalising, processing and articulating the experience itself. Why? Mercury, Lord 1, is in detriment and falling in Pisces, the most mystical and confusing of the signs, the antithesis of Mercury’s rationality and accuracy to understand his whereabouts. We see it just 0.40 degrees from entering Aries, void of course, with its hands tied in an experience far too irrational for the rational and analytical Mercury. It is in an applying opposition to the Ascendant and conjunct the Descendant, which can be interpreted as a sort of departure from one’s own body to stand before something greater than oneself.
Also interesting is the detail regarding the querent’s significators. He is signified by Mercury (the rational) and, as always, by the Moon (the emotional, the irrational, the mystical). The horary chart is literal in giving him both. And the Moon is also in Pisces, where its mystical qualities can only be amplified. It is 5 degrees from the cusp of the 7th house, so it is already considered to be within it. Both the rational and emotional sides of the querent were immersed in Pisces, although the Moon is far more comfortable there than Mercury. This means that, on that night, it was the dreamlike, visionary side that prevailed. Also, the Moon is extremely well supported, unlike Mercury. The presence of the North Node in Pisces also augments the intensity of the experience.
It is emerging from an extraordinary trine in mutual reception by domicile with Jupiter exalted in Cancer in the 10th house, a very strong support, and moving towards an approaching sextile with Venus in Taurus, the other benefic in the sky, this time in mutual reception by exaltation! It is rare to see the Moon better supported than in a chart such as this, assisted by the two benefics in remarkable positions and in clear mutual reception, with no interference from other planets. The querent’s dreamlike side was immersed in the Waters of Pisces but aided by the two most benevolent forces.
Also, the trine is of a Jovian nature and the sextile of a Venusian nature. Everything seems to fall into place with this Moon. Venus herself is Lord of the 9th House, the house of prophecies, dreams, visions and mysticism, so the querent’s experience has a profound connection with that house. Venus in the 9th House signifies divinatory and magical gifts, particularly when in a favourable zodiacal position, as is the case here.
This confirms that the querent has had contact with forces from the 9th house, of a benevolent nature given the positive character of this very strong Venus. What is interesting is that the only concrete detail the querent provided regarding the location was the fact that this experience occurred suddenly in a private musical space, which points to contact with Venus, the significator of music.
He also added that, since then, he has sought to learn more and more about hermetic and occult arts, which also points to this reading, given that the Moon is moving towards Venus, Lord of the 9th House. Even with Mercury being hardly analytical, Pisces is the exaltation of Venus, so even the rational side feels deeply drawn to this Goddess in the house of mystical knowledge and the Divine.
Ultimately, an experience that seemed profound dream-like. Even so, the chart confirms the benevolence nature of what happened, given the support of the two benefics to the 7th House through reception and aspects, and their excellent position in the sky, with no interference from malefics or malevolent stars. We may also interpret that the Moon, being balsamic in this chart and in the last of her mansions, known as Al Batn al Hut (The Belly of the Fish), also marks the end of a cycle for the native. There is a before and after this experience that leads him into the arms of Venus in the 9th house.
